CHARLOTTE — The Panthers cleared most of their reserve/COVID-19 list, shuffled the roster a bit Wednesday heading into the final week of the regular season, and one of their young players won't be around to finish the year.
The team placed wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. (foot) on injured reserve, along with veteran tackle Cameron Erving (calf).
Marshall suffered an injury in last week's loss at New Orleans, while Erving has missed the last two games.
Marshall came into his rookie year after a string of injuries at LSU, but he flashed in the preseason, showing the kind of explosive-play ability he had in college. In 2019, while playing alongside NFL stars Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase, Marshall scored 13 touchdowns for the national champions.
They also activated outside linebacker Haason Reddick, tight end Tommy Tremble, quarterback P.J. Walker, and practice-squad running back Reggie Bonnafon from the COVID-19 list. They only have three players remaining on the list, defensive tackle Phil Hoskins, along with Jaycee Horn and Daviyon Nixon, who were already on injured reserve.
They also signed defensive end Jacob Tuioti-Mariner off the Steelers practice squad.
Tuioti-Mariner originally joined the Falcons as an undrafted rookie from UCLA in 2018. He had 2.0 sacks for them this year (which is still tied for second on the team list this year), but was waived in November, at which point he joined the Steelers practice squad.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder gives the Panthers a larger edge-setting presence at the position, as they begin to think about how to shore up the run defense in the future.
The Panthers also added cornerback Jalen Julius to the practice squad. He was with them this offseason and in training camp.
