CHARLOTTE — The Panthers are getting a couple of players back on the practice field Wednesday, including their opening week starting quarterback.
Quarterback Sam Darnold and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver III were designated to return from injured reserve.
That allows them to practice, and starts the 21-day clock to return them to the active roster.
Darnold went on IR in Week 10 with a shoulder injury. Thomas-Oliver went to IR in Week 11 with a foot injury.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said earlier this week that getting Darnold back was a possibility later this season, as they assess their quarterback options. He said that the plan remained for Cam Newton to start this week against the Bills, but to also use backup P.J. Walker.
