SPARTANBURG — The Panthers added to their backfield depth Thursday morning, and adding another player to the roster with the same name as an existing player.
The Panthers signed veteran running back Rod Smith Thursday morning. To make room for him on the roster, they waived undrafted rookie punter Oscar Draguicevich.
The 29-year-old Smith broke into the league as an undrafted rookie with the Seahawks, and played four seasons with the Cowboys. He has also spent time with the Giants, Titans, and Raiders. He offers some flexibility since they had just one fullback on the roster, and he's also a contributor on special teams.
The Panthers already had Rodney Smith on the roster at running back, so they join the many Moores on the roster, including wide receivers DJ Moore, David Moore and offensive lineman David Moore.
