CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have signed Josh Hawkins, a cornerback with NFL starting experience, to their practice squad.
The East Carolina product will take the spot previously occupied by defensive end Kiante Anderson, who is injured and will no longer count toward the 10-player limit. Anderson also played for ECU.
Hawkins, a 5-foot-10, 189-pounder from Winston-Salem, N.C., went undrafted in 2016 but spent his rookie year and the 2017 season on the Packers' 53-man roster. He played in 26 games and started three times last season, recording 43 tackles, seven passes defensed and a force fumble. Green Bay waived Hawkins on cutdown day Saturday.
