CHARLOTTE - The Panthers announced a pair of transactions on Tuesday night, signing undrafted wide receiver C.J. Saunders from Ohio State, while waiving QB Tommy Stevens.
Saunders walked on at Ohio State as a cornerback in 2016 before transitioning to wide receiver and earning a scholarship in 2017. In two seasons, he totaled 294 receiving yards and one touchdown on 27 receptions. He was named a captain in 2019 before missing the season due to injury.
Undrafted in 2020, Saunders went to rookie minicamp with Atlanta this spring before signing with Carolina.
Stevens spent most of last season on the Panthers' practice squad after he was initially drafted by New Orleans last spring. He saw action against the Saints in the 2020 season finale, rushing four times for 24 yards.
