CHARLOTTE — The Panthers intend to sign quarterback Matt Barkley off the Titans practice squad, pending a physical.
The Panthers' plans for the week at quarterback are up in the air, after Sam Darnold had an MRI on his right shoulder Monday. P.J. Walker was the only other quarterback on the active roster.
The 31-year-old Barkley has played in 19 career games, with his last start coming in 2018 with the Bills (a 41-10 win over the Jets, in which he threw two touchdowns).
Since a brief run as the starter for the Bears in 2016, he's appeared in eight games for the Bills.
Barkley went to training camp with the Titans this summer, and was released in final cuts and added to the practice squad. He was originally a fourth-round pick of the Eagles out of Southern Cal.
Once the move goes through, the Panthers will have 51 players on the active roster.
