Panthers place John Miller on IR, waive punter Ryan Winslow

John Miller

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers are going to have a new look at punter this week, and on the offensive line.

The team on Tuesday placed starting right guard John Miller on injured reserve with an ankle injury, and waived punter Ryan Winslow.

Miller suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's game against the Giants.

Without him in the lineup, the Panthers will start their sixth different combination of linemen in eight games.

Options to replace him include Brady Christensen, Trent Scott, or Dennis Daley, and they're getting closer to the return for Pat Elflein (who has been designated to return from IR).

With the two roster moves, the Panthers have 51 players on the 53-man roster at the moment, leaving room for possible activations of players including Stephon Gilmore and Myles Hartsfield.

The Panthers also made a special teams change on the practice squad, releasing kicker Dominik Eberle and signing punter Lachlan Edwards.

Edwards could be promoted from the practice squad later this week to punt against the Falcons.

Edwards, an Australian who played at Sam Houston State, has spent time with the Jets, Bills, Chargers, and Lions. In his four years with the Jets, he averaged 45.5 yards per punt.

The Panthers are still at least a week away from Joseph Charlton being eligible to return from IR. He was struggling with a back injury, and struggling to repeat his form from a successful rookie season.
