Panthers make three moves

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made a series of roster moves Tuesday, with injuries forcing the need for moves elsewhere on the roster.

The Panthers signed practice squad tight end Feleipe Franks to the active roster, released tight end Jordan Matthews, and waived outside linebacker Eku Leota.

Franks, the former University of Florida quarterback, was on the active roster for the opener, was later released and signed to the practice squad, and played last week as a standard elevation for the week. He's already proving to be a valuable contributor on special teams.

Matthews played in both the first two games. Leota had a sack and three tackles for loss in the opener.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales mentioned Monday that nose tackle Shy Tuttle suffered a foot injury Sunday, and they were already short there after putting Derrick Brown on injured reserve. They only have four healthy linemen on the roster at the moment, with A'Shawn Robinson, Nick Thurman, LaBryan Ray, and Jayden Peevy, with DeShawn Williams and T.J. Smith on the practice squad.
