CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have claimed wide receiver Donte Moncrief from the Steelers, who waived him Saturday.
Moncrief signed with Pittsburgh this offseason but battled drops and eventually lost his place in the starting lineup before the Steelers parted ways. He posted four catches for 18 yards in five games for the Steelers this season.
A third-round draft choice of Indianapolis in the 2014 NFL Draft, Moncrief is in his sixth NFL season. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder spent four seasons with the Colts (2014-17) before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 and the Steelers in 2019.
Moncrief has played in 74 career games with 43 starts, totaling 204 receptions for 2,561 yards and 21 touchdowns. He posted career highs in receptions (64) and receiving yards (733) to go along with six receiving touchdowns in 2015 – the year he was with current Panthers wide receivers coach Jim Hostler in Indy – and tallied a career-high seven touchdown catches in 2016.
