CHARLOTTE — The Panthers on Friday added two defensive players, signing cornerback Jameson Houston and defensive end Austin Larkin.
Houston played for head coach Matt Rhule at Baylor, starting all 14 games last season as a senior. He was an All-Big 12 honorable mention honoree and first-team academic All-Big 12. Houston signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent, but Cleveland waived him on Aug. 10.
Since going undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2018, Larkin has spent time with the Cowboys and Falcons. He appeared in two games for Atlanta last year, playing 26 snaps on special teams and 10 on defense. Larkin also played for the San Antonio Commanders of the short-lived Alliance of American Football league.
Both players tried out for Carolina earlier this week, meaning they have already passed COVID-19 testing protocols.
As corresponding roster moves, the Panthers have cut defensive end DeVonte Lambert and cornerback Cole Luke.
