Panthers sign long snapper ahead of preseason finale

CHARLOTTE -- The Panthers have signed long snapper Andrew DePaola to get them through the fourth and final preseason game against Pittsburgh.

DePaola is a veteran who has played for three different teams since 2014, and he'll fill in for Carolina's longtime snapper J.J. Jansen. DePaola was most recently with the Raiders, playing in the 2018 season opener before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

"J.J.'s left hand has been bothering him and we decided to sign a snapper and hold J.J. out tomorrow night as a precaution," general manager Marty Hurney said.

The Panthers had an open roster spot after placing defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao (quad) on injured reserve. Carolina also reached injury settlements with guard Norman Price and linebacker Jonathan Celestin, who were both on IR.
