CHARLOTTE — The Panthers used their first overall pick on offense, but on Day 2, attention turned to defense.

With the No. 51 pick overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers selected Nic Scourton, edge rusher out of Texas A&M.

Scourton adds talented and young depth to a unit that has needed an influx of both, a season after finishing tied for the third fewest sacks in the league, with 32 total. The club added Patrick Jones II this offseason.

The Timpson, Tex. native spent his first two years at Purdue, accumulating 72 tackles, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles during that time. His final year saw Scourton head home to the Lone Star state. The Aggies were loaded in the front seven, but Scourton broke through with 37 tackles, 14 for loss (leading the team), five sacks, two pass break-ups, and a forced fumble.
