Robert Hunt named to Pro Bowl Games

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers now have a pair of Pro Bowlers, as guard Robert Hunt is joining cornerback Jaycee Horn at the 2025 Pro Bowl Games.

Hunt was named to the team to replace Eagles guard Landon Dickerson, who will be preparing for the Super Bowl.

The 28-year-old guard, signed as a free agent last March, quickly became part of the personality of a new-look team as they established a strong running game and much-improved pass protection.

He played every offensive snap in the first 16 games before a knee issue kept him out of the regular season finale. He allowed just 2.5 sacks on the season as a whole, was called for holding once, and allowed a 6.8 quarterback pressure percentage.

He joked at the end of last season that after being a fifth alternate in his final season with the Dolphins, he was climbing the ladder as a second alternate this year.

"I can't say that was snubbed. I just know I can be better," Hunt said. "I was an alternate last year, so this year, I got closer. I was a closer alternate. Maybe next year, I kick the door down. I'm gonna do all I can in this offseason to try to kick the door down."

With him in the middle of a rebuilt offensive interior, the Panthers went from 65 sacks allowed in 2023 to 36 last year, and they helped create the conditions for running back Chuba Hubbard to post career highs with 1,195 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

He also did it with a certain style, as some of the "disrespectful" blocks he administered — like throwing a man out of the club on a screen pass against the Raiders — were instrumental in helping the Panthers establish a certain mindset. As Hunt would blow someone up, there became a competition among the linemen to assert themselves, which players like Ikem Ekwonu quickly joined in.

"It boosted it up, man," Hunt said of the mood of the room when they watched that film. "We go out there like yo, you ain't going to get more than me. I mean bodies, like I'm knocking people out more than you are. Like I saw Ickey doing that, now I'm going to challenge him this week. Hey, if you want to keep doing it, do it, show them what you got. I'm going to try to beat you. . . .

"So it's not a competition thing. It's just like, hey, let's do it. And then once somebody gets the tone set, somebody follows."

This is the first time the Panthers have had two Pro Bowlers since 2021, when Brian Burns and Stephon Gilmore were there.

Derrick Brown was there as the lone representative last year.
