Panthers sign linebacker Chandler Wooten

Chandler Wooten

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added some needed linebacker depth Tuesday, signing Chandler Wooten off the 49ers practice squad.

The 25-year-old Wooten came here in 2022 when he was signed off the Cardinals practice squad and has played in 20 total games for the Panthers, including three games here earlier this season.

An excellent special teams player, he recovered a fumble last year against the Colts.

He signed with the 49ers practice squad last Tuesday, making for a quick turnaround. The Panthers needed the familiarity since they only had three healthy inside linebackers last week, and Jon Rhattigan was used exclusively on special teams. That left Josey Jewell to play every snap and rookie Jacoby Windmon to make his first NFL start.
