CHARLOTTE — The Panthers released their first depth chart of the season Monday, heading into Thursday's preseason opener at New England.
There are no real surprises on the chart, based on what's been happening on the practice fields thus far during training camp.
On offense, three receivers are listed as starters — Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, and Jonathan Mingo. Rookie Xavier Legette , who isn't expected to play Thursday for precautionary reasons after leaving Sunday's practice with a foot issue, is listed with the second team there, along with Terrace Marshall Jr. and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
Chuba Hubbard is listed as the starting running back, followed by Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear.
On defense, DJ Johnson is listed as a starting outside linebacker opposite Jadeveon Clowney.
Johnson, last year's third-round pick, is the kind of strong, edge-setting player they like at the position. K'Lavon Chaisson and Eku Leota are listed as the second string on the chart.
Jaycee Horn and Dane Jackson are listed as the starting corners, followed by Lamar Jackson and Dicaprio Bootle. Veteran Troy Hill is the nickel starter, followed by Chau Smith-Wade.
