CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have made a series of roster moves ahead of their first pre-season game of the 2024 season.

Guard J.D. DiRenzo has been waived/injured and the club claimed defensive back Caden Sterns off of waivers.

Sterns, a safety who played college ball at Texas, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. He had a strong start as a rookie, playing in 15 games as a rotational guy, racking up 28 tackles, two sacks, five passes defended and two interceptions during that time. His second season was spent under current Panthers defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero. That year, he played in five games, accumulating 21 tackles, four passes defended and one interception, before injuries sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He spent the 2023 season in Injured Reserve with a torn patellar tendon.

While at Texas, Sterns averaged 57.67 tackles per season over three years. During that time, he totaled eight passes defended, five interceptions and two sacks.

The Panthers will fly to New England this week for a Thursday night pre-season matchup versus the New England Patriots.
