Panthers announce staff additions

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made a number of changes to the football staff heading into the 2025 season.

The team has hired former Bills associate athletic trainer Denny Kellington as the new vice president of player health and performance.

Kellington is perhaps best known for his role in saving Bills safety Damar Hamlin's life two seasons ago, when he began performing CPR on the safety while he was still on the field during a Monday Night Football game on Jan. 2, 2023.

"All the attention I've received for simply doing my job has been overwhelming," he said that spring while giving the commencement address at his alma mater, Oklahoma State. "I've said repeatedly that I am not a hero, but I will tell you what I was that day, I was ready."

Kellington will oversee the athletic training, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sports science staff.

They also hired former Vikings strength coach Josh Hingst as their new director of performance.

The Panthers also announced a number of changes to the coaching staff.

They've hired Renaldo Hill as secondary coach, AC Carter as outside linebackers coach, Keyshawn Colmon as offensive assistant, and Kevin Peterson as defensive assistant.

Additionally, three current staffers have new titles now, as offensive assistant Mike Bercovici is now assistant quarterbacks coach and pass game specialist, and Mayur Chaudhari is now assistant linebackers coach. Jim Caldwell is now the senior coaching advisor.

Hill had a 10-year career as an NFL safety, including stints with the Cardinals, Raiders, Dolphins, and Broncos. He got into coaching in 2012 in the college ranks, and has been in the NFL since 2018, when he worked for the Dolphins. He's also spent time with the Broncos and Chargers.

Carter was a quality control coach with the Broncos in 2022, working under Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. He joined the Rams the following year and spent the last two seasons there as assistant defensive line coach.

Colmon spent the 2023 season at Fresno State as a graduate assistant and 2024 at Sacramento State as receivers coach. He played wide receiver at John Carroll University,

Peterson's a former NFL cornerback, spending six years with the Rams and Cardinals. He coached cornerbacks at Colorado State-Pueblo. As a player, he appeared in 36 career games with seven starts, and had two interceptions (both in 2017 when he was with the Rams).
