CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added some depth at receiver Thursday, who also should have some familiarity with the offense.

The team signed wide receiver Deven Thompkins after a workout.

The former undrafted rookie from Utah State spent the last two seasons with the Buccaneers, where he was with Dave Canales and most of the Panthers' current offensive staff.

The 5-foot-8, 155-pound Thompkins caught 22 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Bucs in 22 games the last two seasons. He also returned kicks and punts for the Bucs.

He was one of the most productive players in college during his time at Utah State. He caught 102 passes for 1,704 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. He also ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.

To make room for him on the roster, the team waived/injured rookie defensive lineman Popo Aumavae.
