CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added some offensive line depth prior to Saturday's second preseason game.
The team signed guard Ike Boettger Friday. To make room for him on the roster, the team waived rookie linebacker Jackson Mitchell.
The 29-year-old Boettger originally stuck with the Bills as an undrafted rookie from Iowa in 2018.
He has spent time with the Bills, Chiefs, and Colts and was in Lions camp until earlier this week. He has appeared in 36 games, with 17 starts.
The Panthers needed some more help there, as they had just seven other healthy, non-starting offensive linemen going into Saturday's game against the Jets, and that was after claiming Mason Brooks off waivers Thursday. They were caught short last week when two of their seven active linemen were injured in New England.
If the starters don't play, injuries to Chandler Zavala, Cade Mays, Badara Traore, and Yosh Nijman left them short on numbers, necessitating the move.
