CHARLOTTE — The Panthers placed running back Miles Sanders on injured reserve Saturday, which will keep him out for at least the next four weeks.
Sanders was injured in the second quarter of the pre-bye game in Germany, and he did not practice this week, and was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
The 27-year-old Sanders had 38 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown this season, with the score coming in the Week 3 win at Las Vegas.
To fill his roster spot, the Panthers signed wide receiver Deven Thompkins to the active roster.
Thompkins had been elevated from the practice squad the last two weeks to provide depth at receiver, with Adam Thielen out with a hamstring injury. Thielen is expected to return to the field for Sunday's game.
Also Saturday, the Panthers promoted wide receiver Dan Chisena and outside linebacker Kenny Dyson from the practice squad for the week by standard elevation. It's the first of a maximum of three elevations for each of them.
The Panthers also downgraded outside linebacker Amaré Barno from doubtful to out this week. He just completed the first week of practice in his three-week window to return after tearing his ACL last year on Christmas Eve.
