CHARLOTTE - Rookie safety Rashaan Gaulden, who showed up Thursday complaining of ankle soreness, is among the Panthers' inactives for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Gaulden has been backing up recent addition Eric Reid. Veteran Colin Jones could spell Reid if Carolina opts to give Reid a few snaps off, and cornerback Corn Elder can play safety. Elder and defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. are active for the first time since Week 3.
Starting wide receiver Torrey Smith was ruled out Friday with a knee injury that will prevent him from facing the team that drafted him. Jarius Wright is slated to start, but Damiere Byrd knows the position well, and youngsters DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel could see more snaps. Last week against the Eagles, all six receivers had catches; five will be active today.
