Derrick Brown getting second opinion on knee issue

Derrick Brown

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers absorbed another blow Monday, as one of their top players was injured in the loss to the Saints.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that star defensive tackle Derrick Brown suffered a meniscus injury in his knee during the game Sunday and was getting a second opinion to determine the severity of the issue.

Canales said Brown mentioned "soreness" last night, and came in this morning describing more, and was sent to get an MRI.

Brown was coming off his first Pro Bowl last season, setting a league record for tackles in a season by a defensive lineman (103). The former first-round pick signed a contract extension this offseason, which secures him here through the 2028 season.

Brown played 60 of the 66 defensive snaps Sunday in the 47-10 loss to the Saints.

The team still has veterans A'Shawn Robinson and Shy Tuttle at the position, along with backups Nick Thurman, Jayden Peevy, and LaBryan Ray.
