Stadium Construction Update

Phase One of Bank of America Stadium renovations is progressing nicely at the seven-week mark.

The lower ribbon board that will encircle the bowl is now being installed, as are brackets that will secure the upper board.

Each section of ribbon board weighs 400 pounds, with the biggest and most common type of section measuring around 5 feet by 7 feet. The lower ring will feature 295 sections.

"We're in the demolition phase with the domes, taking down the old fiberglass domes and getting ready to install all-glass domes," facility manager Matt Getz explained.

The two domes perched above each of the stadium's three entry gates are being redesigned. "The lights will be a lot crisper and brighter," Getz said. "It should be a lot more dramatic."

Crews continue to build upon and reinforce the structure that will house massive video boards in each end zone.

Speakers that will hang from each of the four light standards are ready for installation. Each light standard will boast 15 of the 1,600-pound speakers.

A couple of workers raise their game on the 500 level.

More workers scurry about at one of the two East Gate escalator bays.

Workers plot their next move.

The South Gate escalator bay is really beginning to take shape, with work having now ascended to the 300 level.

Good weather of late has helped keep the project on schedule for its July 1 goal.

A sign of the times around Bank of America Stadium.

"I'm sure everybody will enjoy the escalators - the ease of use, the speed," Getz said. "The video boards and the ribbon boards will offer an in-bowl experience that you can't get at home, and the new sound system is icing on the cake."

"It is exciting to be a part of such a major change in this building," Getz added. "Having been a part of the building ever since it came out of the ground and now being a part of the next big phase almost 20 years later - it's great to be a part of it."
