Stadium Construction Update
Phase One of Bank of America Stadium renovations continue.
The infrastructure for the old video boards above each end zone will remain but is being expanded and given more structural support.
"You'll see it's growing left and right because our board is growing 15 feet on either side," director of stadium operations Scott Paul said. "Over the next couple of weeks, you'll also see it extend up, approximately 30 feet from the top of the vertical steel."
Because the new video boards will be two-and-a-half times larger than the previous ones, a dozen 14,000-pound raker plates will lend support to each video board.
Equipment has made its way up the ramps to help with all the heavy lifting.
"Daktronics has removed all of our existing ribbon boards, game clocks and static signage," Paul said. "Those black brackets are there for the new ribbon boards they're getting ready to install."
Work on the four escalator bays that will get fans to their seats quicker and easier is rapidly progressing. Here's a look at the South Gate bay last week...
...and here's how it looks six days later. "They're all in various stages of construction," Paul said, "but the South Gate is the furthest along."
The East Gate, where the two elevator bays are in earlier stages of construction. The fourth bay is located near the North Gate.
Workers at the East Gate have plenty to do in the escalator pit. The escalators that will be housed here will take fans to their seats on the 300 and 500 levels and transport them back to street level after games.
Supplies for the major project are scattered throughout the stadium, including near concession stands on the 500 level.
This pile of pipe on the 500 level is just a piece of the puzzle.
Bathrooms are draped off during construction on the 500 level near the West Entrance.
"Five-and-a-half weeks in, we're on schedule and real happy with where we are," Paul said. Phase One is scheduled to be completed by July 1.
