CHARLOTTE — Defensive tackle Kawann Short was one of two players who did not participate in Wednesday's first practice of the week.
Short (foot) suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to Las Vegas, though head coach Matt Rhule was unsure exactly when it happened.
"He finished the game on Sunday and I know he's working hard to come back," Rhule said. "If anyone can come back, I'm sure 'KK' can."
Rhule is concerned about Short's status for Sunday's trip to Tampa Bay since he didn't practice. But the head coach said he'll continue to monitor Short throughout the rest of the week.
Although cornerback Donte Jackson left the season-opening loss to the Raiders and did not return with an ankle injury, he was a full participant Wednesday. That's a positive sign for his potential availability against the Buccaneers.
Left guard Dennis Daley is unlikely to be available for Week 2. He missed another practice, with Rhule saying he didn't have much hope the second-year guard would be available for Sunday's game. Michael Schofield will continue to play left guard in Daley's place.
Elsewhere on the injury report, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (eye) was a limited participant. Linebacker Shaq Thompson (groin), wide receiver/returner Pharoh Cooper (ribs), and defensive end Stephen Weatherly (hamstring) were full participants.
