Short named NFC Defensive Player of Month

CHARLOTTE – Defensive tackle Kawann Short is the NFC Defensive Player of the Month after recording five sacks and 19 tackles in October.

Short posted three sacks, eight tackles, one forced fumble and one pass defensed last week against the Eagles on Sunday Night Football.

"It just means I'm doing my job," Short said. "That's what they brought me in for - to be a player that comes in and dominates. I'm just trying to live up the expectations."

A week prior at Seattle, he posted two sacks en route to claiming NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

"He's just putting it all together," linebacker Luke Kuechly said. "We always knew he could rush the passer and that he was quick and that he had great hands. But he's just putting it all together now. He's done a great job for us, making a lot of big plays. It's really been a big boost to our defense."

The Panthers have claimed both NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors awarded this season, with cornerback Josh Norman receiving the honor in September. Short is the 11th Carolina player to win the award but the first defensive tackle to do so.
