CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have signed wide receiver Russell Shepard to a three-year contract.
Shepard, who spent his first four seasons with the Buccaneers, is coming off his best season. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wideout started four games for Tampa Bay, posting 23 catches for 341 yards and two touchdowns – all career highs.
"This is the best opportunity for me to take the next step in my career," Shepard. "It's a great team, a great organization. I want to keep developing as a receiver and help this team win."
But Shepard, who was undrafted coming out of Louisiana State, first made a name for himself in the NFL as a productive special teams player. In 2014, he led the Buccaneers with 14 special teams tackles and he was named special teams captain each of the past two seasons.
"I look forward to continue to keep leading on special teams," Shepard said. "I'm a guy that will do whatever it takes."
