CHARLOTTE - When the Panthers resume organized team activities Wednesday, they'll do so with a new tight end on the roster.
The Panthers have signed rookie free agent Nelson Rosario. They made room on the 90-man roster by waiving rookie running back Princeton McCarty.
Rosario, no relation to former Panthers tight end Dante Rosario, had been signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from UCLA by the Jacksonville Jaguars following the NFL Draft but was waived after the team's rookie camp on May 7.
The 6-5, 225-pounder lined up at both wide receiver and H-back during his career for the Bruins. In 45 games with 23 starts, he totaled 146 receptions for 2,362 yards and eight touchdowns.
Rosario was named UCLA's offensive most valuable player as senior when he posted team highs of 64 catches and 1,161 receiving yards. Possessing deceptive quickness for his size, he led the Bruins with 723 receiving yards and an average of 17.2 yards per catch on 42 receptions as a sophomore in 2009.
