CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have promoted practice squad cornerback Lou Young to the active roster after placing starting cornerback Charles Tillman on injured reserve.
Carolina signed Young to its practice squad in November of the 2014 season, and he's been there ever since. Outside of the preseason, Young has never played in an NFL game in his two-year career.
The Panthers were impressed with Young's performance during OTAs and training camp. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder from Georgia Tech showed a knack for making plays on the ball when healthy.
With Tillman and Bene Benwikere on IR, Carolina will enter the postseason without two of its top three cornerbacks. Robert McClain is the starter on the outside in Tillman's absence, and Cortland Finnegan has taken over for Benwikere at nickel. Both McClain and Finnegan were free agent signings late in the season.
