The Panthers' shuffle at linebacker continued on Wednesday as the team claimed linebacker Jason Williams off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys and waived linebacker Abdul Hodge.
Williams (6-1, 244 pounds) has played in 10 games in two seasons since the Cowboys made him their top draft choice in 2009, selecting the Western Illinois product in the third round (69th overall). He has primarily contributed on special teams, where he has posted eight tackles in addition to recording three tackles on defense.
As a rookie, Williams appeared in five games and notched two special teams tackles. He played in the first five games this season and ranked fifth on the team with six special teams tackles before being inactive for the next two games.
Hodge had been signed as a free agent on Oct. 27 when the Panthers placed linebacker Jamar Williams on injured reserve. He was inactive last week at St. Louis.
