CHARLOTTE – Skill position players dominate the list of 12 undrafted rookie free agents who have agreed to terms with the Panthers. The group includes four wide receivers and three running backs.
One of those running backs, Tauren Poole of Tennessee, was projected to be picked as early as the fifth round of the NFL Draft. The 5-10, 209-pounder racked up 1,898 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Volunteers, including a 1,000-yard season in 2010.
Matt Reynolds, a 6-4, 305-pound offensive tackle, also was projected as a possible fifth-round pick. He started 52 games at Brigham Young and was a first-team all-Mountain West selection in 2009 and 2010 (the Cougars were an independent in 2011).
The quartet of wide receivers includes Jared Green of Southern University - the son of former Washington Redskins star cornerback Darrell Green – and Charlotte native Brenton Bersin from Wofford. There's also Shenandoah wide receiver Rico Wallace put up some eye-popping statistics, finishing his career at the Division III school with 189 receptions for 3,287 yards and 28 touchdowns.
The undrafted rookies along with the team's seven draft picks will take part in a rookie mini-camp May 11-13.
