CAM NEWTON TO STAR IN NICKELODEON SERIES:Cam Newton will star in a 20-episode docu-series titled "I Wanna Be..." on Nickelodeon beginning in 2016. The program will follow Newton as he helps kids' dreams come true - like landing a gig on Broadway or decorating award-winning cakes.  "Time in the spotlight has made me realize the importance of creating positive messages to inspire the next generation," Newton said in a press release. DAVIS CHATS WITH NFL NETWORK: Linebacker Thomas Davis spoke with NFL HQ about his high expectations for the Panthers defense. "We're trying to be the No. 1 defense at the end of the season, and I definitely feel that we can get it done," said Davis. PANTHER PETS:The Charlotte Observer recently had a doggone precious piece about folks around Charlotte who have named their pets after Panthers. While it wasn't surprising that Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly were the most common names, it was surprising that no one named a dog after kicker Graham Gano. PANTHERS SIGN DAMIERE BYRD TO PRACTICE SQUAD: As previously mentioned in Tuesday's edition of Ask Bryan, the Panthers re-signed former South Carolina wide receiver Damiere Byrd to the practice squad, which could mean the team will look to promote Brenton Bersin to the active roster in the event that Jerricho Cotchery's ankle injury will keep him off the field.
