How quickly things change – in the world of mock drafts, at least.
Since Mock Draft Report 1.0, three mock drafters have changed their minds on who they see the Panthers taking in the first round. Their decisions introduce some new names to our series, and the way the mockers made their decisions again speaks to how need-based mock drafts tend to be.
Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com both stuck with the Panthers picking an offensive tackle and cornerback respectively at No. 30 overall, but both of their original choices are now Seattle bound.
Prisco now sees the Seahawks taking Indiana offensive tackle Jason Spriggs after they lost tackle Russell Okung to Denver in free agency, prompting Prisco to target Texas Tech tackle Le'Raven Clark (cool name) to Carolina. Jeremiah had the Panthers taking Ohio State corner Eli Apple but now thinks Apple looks like a Seattle kind of guy. Jeremiah now has the Panthers taking Miami corner Artie Burns.
Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated has also changed his mind but has done so with a familiar face, now targeting Clemson defensive end Kevin Dodd for Carolina. Burke has his original Panthers target, Ohio State offensive tackle Taylor Decker, long gone to Detroit at No. 16 after the Lions addressed their defensive tackle needs in free agency.
Three new mock drafters enter the fray this week and enter new names into the mix – and new positions in two cases. Will Brinson of CBSSports.com likes Alabama defensive tackle Jarran Reed, and Jeremy Igo of CarolinaHuddle.com makes a case for Arkansas tight end Hunter Henry. Eric Galko of SportingNews.com features a familiar positon and school but a new prospect – Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander.
