As detailed in the latest Ask Bryan mailbag, the Panthers appear to already be in good shape at wide receiver as they continue to build their roster for next season.
That's actually why we found the latest mock drafts that have the Panthers picking a wide receiver in the first round refreshing. Mock drafts are so often based on perceived need, so we are always impressed when the pick appears to be based on best available player instead.
Of course, the mockers targeting Texas Christian receiver Josh Doctson and Notre Dame receiver Will Fuller to the Panthers might actually perceive receiver to be a need for Carolina. Both receivers are viewed by most as late-first-round possibilities, with Doctson having led the nation in receiving yards per game last season and Fuller having scored 30 touchdowns in 29 career starts.
The other new entries this week are Ohio State safety Vonn Bell, whom draft guru Mel Kiper calls a "sensible value" at No. 30 overall, and Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson. This is the first mock we've come across that has Lawson lasting to No. 30, and WalterFootball.com calls him a "steal at this juncture."
Defensive end continues to be a go-to choice for Carolina among mockers, with Kevin Dodd of Clemson and Emmanuel Ogbah of Oklahoma State represented in the Mock Draft Report for the second consecutive week.
