CHARLOTTE — The Panthers opened the window for running back Miles Sanders to return to practice Wednesday, giving them another potential option in the backfield for the finale.
Sanders has been on IR since Nov. 23 after injuring his ankle during the win over the Giants in Germany.
Sanders has 38 carries for 139 yards in 10 games this season, backing up Chuba Hubbard during his 1,195-yard, 10-touchdown season.
The Panthers were down to running backs Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone during Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after Hubbard was placed on IR last Saturday with a calf injury.
Carolina is 21-35 all-time against Atlanta dating all the way back to 1995.
