CHARLOTTE — The Panthers opened the window for running back Miles Sanders to return to practice Wednesday, giving them another potential option in the backfield for the finale.
Sanders has been on IR since Nov. 23 after injuring his ankle during the win over the Giants in Germany.
Sanders has 38 carries for 139 yards in 10 games this season, backing up Chuba Hubbard during his 1,195-yard, 10-touchdown season.
The Panthers were down to running backs Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone during Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after Hubbard was placed on IR last Saturday with a calf injury.
Carolina is 21-35 all-time against Atlanta dating all the way back to 1995.

The Panthers second-year quarterback had his best game of the season, but the highlight occurred as he was crossing the goal line to complete a 72-yard scoring run. He somersaulted into the end zone, and as his legs were in the air, he was nudged slightly by a Falcons defensive back. (AP Photo/Rainier Ehrhardt, File)

Tedy Bruschi didn't get a chance to tackle Steve Smith when the Patriots played the Panthers in September. By midseason, he'd made a remarkable comeback from a stroke and was starting for New England. His return was as impressive as Smith's achievement of returning from a knee injury that cost the Carolina receiver nearly all of the 2004 season.
