CHARLOTTE - Joe Kenn, an accomplished strength coach on the college level with nearly two decades of experience, has been hired as the Panthers' strength and conditioning coach.
Kenn played football at Wake Forest with Panthers offensive consultant Ricky Proehl in 1987 and 1988, and he was director of strength and conditioning when Panthers receiver Cam Newton played for the Utes (1999-2000).
Kenn spent the 2008 and '09 seasons as strength and conditioning coach at Louisville and spending seven seasons at Arizona State, where he was named College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in 2002. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Boise State and a year at Wake Forest.
In addition to working with Smith at Utah, Kenn has worked with the likes of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs at Arizona State as well as former NFL standouts Mike Anderson (at Utah) and Kimo Von Oelhoffen (at Boise State).
