CHARLOTTE — The Panthers are getting three more players on the practice field Wednesday.

The team has designated rookie running back Jonathon Brooks to return from the non-football injury list and safety Sam Franklin Jr. and defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy to return from injured reserve.

The moves open the three-week window for them to practice before being activated to the 53-man roster. They can be activated at any time.

Brooks, the team's second-round pick from Texas, suffered a torn ACL last November. He rushed for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games last year before the injury, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

Franklin, the team's special teams captain and emotional leader, suffered a broken foot during training camp.

Crumedy, the sixth-round pick from Mississippi State, suffered an ankle injury in the preseason opener.

Also Tuesday, the team signed wide receiver Dan Chisena to the practice squad. The Penn State product has spent time with the Vikings, Steelers, Cardinals, and Ravens, appearing in 31 games, primarily as a special teams player.
