CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made a number of adjustments to the roster Tuesday, including placing rookie running back Jonathon Brooks on injured reserve.
Brooks suffered a torn right ACL in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, the same knee he injured last November in college at Texas.
To fill the roster spot, the team signed wide receiver/returner Velus Jones Jr. from the Jaguars practice squad.
Jones, 27, was originally a third-round pick of the Bears out of Tennessee. He's averaged 26.7 yards per kickoff return in his three seasons in the league (27 games). Returner Raheem Blackshear suffered a chest injury in Sunday's loss, and is considered day-to-day.
The Panthers also signed defensive tackle Sam Roberts from their own practice squad to the 53-man roster and waived veteran defensive end Deshawn Williams.
A former sixth-round pick of the Patriots who also spent time with the Bears, Roberts was signed to the practice squad in November.
The Panthers also swapped out wide receivers on the practice squad, signing veteran Trenton Irwin, and releasing Dax Milne.
Irwin has spent parts of the last six seasons with the Bengals (arriving in 2019 when Panthers backup quarterback Andy Dalton was still there). He's appeared in 41 games and has 46 catches for 601 yards and five touchdowns.
Carolina is 5-11 all-time against Dallas, winning the last two in the series.
