Inside-the-Numbers_WK18_atATL

ATLANTA— A look inside the numbers and snap counts from Sunday's 44-38 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

  • Quarterback Bryce Young found the end zone in the second quarter on a 2-yard rush, capping an 11-play, 58-yard drive (5:16), for his fifth-rushing touchdown of the season.
  • He hit running back Miles Sanders on a 33-yard touchdown pass later in the second, finishing a five-play, 75-yard drive (2:39), his 13th passing touchdown of the season.
  • Young's third touchdown of the day came in the third quarter, an 11-yard pass to tight end Tommy Tremble. He then found wide receiver David Moore for his third passing touchdown of the day and fourth total, a nine yard score to wrap a nine-play, 58-yard drive (5:11). Young's fifth score of the day came in the fourth quarter, a 10-yard rush, capping a nine-play, 70-yard drive (5:49).
  • Young completed 25-of-34 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns against Atlanta, good for a career-high 123.5 passer rating, his third game in a row with a passer rating above 100.0. He also added five rushes for 24 yards and two touchdowns. Young has had at least two touchdown passes in three straight games and a passing touchdown in each of his last 10, both the longest streaks of his career.
  • Young joins Cam Newton and Steve Beuerlein as the only Panthers players to finish a game with five total touchdowns. Newton accomplished this three times in Weeks 11, 13 & 15 of 2015. Beuerlein did it in Week 17 of the 1999 season against New Orleans (against a Jake Delhomme-quarterbacked Saints team).
  • Young also set a career-high in rushing touchdowns in a game and tied his career-high for touchdown passes.
  • According to Real Sports, Young became the youngest quarterback in NFL history with 250 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.
  • Sanders scored the fourth receiving touchdown of his career in the second quarter, a 33-yard pass from Young. This marked Sanders' first receiving touchdown since his rookie season with the Eagles (2019).
  • Sanders game-winning one-yard touchdown rush in overtime was his second rushing touchdown of the season and the first overtime touchdown of his career.
  • He finished the day with 17 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown and three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Sanders set season-highs in carries, yards, receiving yards, receiving long and total touchdowns. His 116 scrimmage yards were his most in a Panthers uniform.
  • Tremble caught his second touchdown of the season in the third quarter, a 12-yard pass from Young. This marked the 10th total touchdown of his career. He finished against the Falcons with two catches for 30 yards and one touchdown.
  • Moore caught his third touchdown of the season in the third quarter, a 9-yard pass from Young. Moore eclipsed 350 receiving yards for the season on the touchdown.
  • Rookie tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders finished against the Falcons with three catches for 35 yards. He passed Ian Thomas for the most receiving yards by a rookie tight end in Panthers history (342).
  • On the Panthers opening drive, wide receiver Jalen Coker found Miles Sanders for a 19-yard gain. Coker became the first non-quarterback or punter to complete a pass for the Panthers since running back Chirstian McCaffrey hit tight end Chris Manhertz for a 50-yard touchdown in 2018 (Week 15 vs. NO, 12/17/18). He paced all Panthers receivers with a career-high seven catches for 62 yards.
  • In his fifth start of the season, rookie safety Demani Richardson led the team with 10 tackles (five solo) and one tackle for loss. This marked Richardson's third game with at least 10 tackles.
  • On the Falcons opening possession of the second half, corner Mike Jackson picked off Michael Penix Jr. for his second interception of the season, a career-high, leading to a Panthers touchdown four plays later. The takeaway also marked the 35th pass defensed of his career. Jackson has had a pass defensed in eight of the last nine games and came into Week 18 tied for fourth in the NFL.
  • With four tackles against the Falcons, Jackson set a career-high for tackles in a season (76), passing his previous high of 74 in 2022.

  • With three quarterback hits in today's game, outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney eclipsed 10 on the season, his seventh season with at least 10 quarterback hits. He later got to Penix for a sack in the third quarter, a two-yard loss for the Falcons.
  • Clowney finished against Atlanta with four tackles (one solo), 1.0 sack, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits and one pass defensed. Today marked Clowney's fifth road game in a row with a tackle for loss.
  • Safety Xavier Woods finished against the Falcons with five total tackles (two solo) and a pass defensed, marking his 14th-straight game with at least five tackles and his third in a row against Atlanta with a pass defensed. He also clinched his fourth season in a row with at least six passes defensed.

  • Long snapper JJ Jansen appeared in the 260th game of his career against the Falcons. Jansen became just the seventh player in NFL history to play in 260+ games for one franchise.
  • Today marked Carolina's fourth overtime game this season, tying a franchise record (four in 2003). The Panthers went 3-1 in overtime games this season, matching their overtime win total from 2003.
  • The Panthers' 44 points were there most in a game since they scored 45 in Week 10 of the 2017 against Miami.
  • Thielen finished with five catches for 44 yards, marking his sixth game in a row with at least five catches.
  • Tight end Feleipe Franks caught the first pass of his career in the second quarter, an 11-yard gain.
  • Undrafted rookie corner Shemar Bartholomew recorded the first pass defensed of his career in the second quarter. He finished the day with two passes defensed.
  • On the opening drive of the game, corner Akayleb Evans had a pass defensed in the end zone on third down, holding the Falcons to a field goal. This marked his first pass defensed of the season and tenth of his career. Evans also added two tackles (both solo).
  • Kicker Eddy Piñeiro finished the game with a career-high five PATs. He also added one field goal, a 35-yarder in the first quarter.

Feleipe Franks 3 (4%) 18 (58%)
  • The fact the Panthers got through the season with this group of receivers is fairly remarkable. With Xavier Legette on the sidelines for most of the second half with a hip injury, they were out there with former seventh-rounder David Moore and the Undrafteds (they should start a band). Rookie Jalen Coker led them in snaps, with Adam Thielen next on the list with 51.
  • Ja'Tavion Sanders caught more balls, but Tommy Tremble played the majority of the snaps (and had the baller-mode touchdown that Bryce Young didn't see. As Sanders develops as a tight end, his workload will increase. He's also the only tight end on the roster under contract for next year.
  • Super-sub offensive lineman Brady Christensen, who can capably start in any position, had nine snaps coming in as an eligible receiver. One of these days, somebody's going to throw it to him.

  • Safety Xavier Woods did it. He played every snap this season, one of two players in the NFL to do so. With his 79 Sunday, Woods played a total of 1,218 snaps (an admittedly absurd amount of plays). The other 100 percenter for the season was Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin, who played a modest 1,156 snaps on the year. Rams safety Quentin Lake was at 100 percent entering Week 18, but didn't start and played just 10 snaps yesterday. Xavier Woods deserves a nap, gang.
  • Otherwise, Mike Jackson was the only Panthers defender to play them all Sunday, getting him to an also-absurd 1,205 snaps on the year (the second-most in the league). Linebacker Chandler Wooten would have, but he came out for a league-mandated concussion check and missed three snaps.
  • Otherwise, the rotations were all over the place because of the mixed bag of personnel. Rookie safety Demani Richardson started at nickel and played all but four snaps, while veteran Jordan Fuller started at safety again and played just 52, as they spent a lot of the day in multiple-corner packages. Likewise, the line snaps were a mess since A'Shawn Robinson left injured, and rookie Jaden Crumedy played over half the game.
