CHARLOTTE -- Wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) has been ruled out for the fourth consecutive week.
Smith did take part in some work on the side during the week of practice, but he did not officially participate in any sessions in advance of Sunday's game at Detroit. Head coach Ron Rivera is excited about his progress, and it appears Smith might be ready to return next week when Carolina hosts Seattle.
"Each day he seemed to progress a little bit more – out running with the trainers, doing some cuts and quick moves," Rivera said. "Each day he's done more and more, and today it was good to see it out there. It looks like he's getting close to opening it up some. We're pretty excited about getting him back soon."
Smith is the only Panther listed on the injury report.
