CHARLOTTE – Defensive end Charles Johnson has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers with a hamstring injury. It will be the first game he's missed this season.
"We're going to miss Charles. He's played well all year," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He really is trying to do everything he can to get back."
With Johnson out, Kony Ealy and Wes Horton will start at defensive end. But the Panthers might get a boost from the return of defensive end Mario Addison, who missed the last two games with a foot injury.
Addison, who leads the team with 6.5 sacks, is listed questionable after practicing in full Friday.
"He looked good," Rivera said. "I'm pretty excited about it."
Linebacker Luke Kuechly, safety Kurt Coleman and cornerback Daryl Worley are all questionable. They all practiced in full on Friday and will play against the Chargers if cleared through the concussion protocol.
"Just going through the steps," Rivera said. "We'll keep our fingers crossed."
