CHARLOTTE – Kicker Graham Gano has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month after a clutch, high-scoring November.
"It's exciting," Gano said. "The hard work we've been doing is paying off a little bit. I feel pretty good about how I'm hitting the ball right now. I'm just trying to stay consistent."
Gano totaled an NFL-leading 62 points in the month of November. He converted 15-of-17 field goals and 17-of-18 extra points.
Gano's biggest moment of the month came in Week 8 against the Colts on Monday Night Football. He had missed an extra point earlier in the game but came back to tie the score in overtime with a 42-yard field goal. He later won the game with a 52-yard field goal.
"I had just been waiting for that opportunity," Gano recalled. "Tie the game and seal the game - to have that opportunity was pretty exciting."
Gano had three-plus field goals in four of five games, including four in the Thanksgiving Day victory over the Cowboys.
Gano is the first Carolina player to win the honor since punter Brad Nortman won it in December of 2013.
