Comments from Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox following the team's summer school practice.
On the Panthers' options to replace linebacker Thomas Davis: We went through it last year. We've got a little bit different faces but we'll have to make do. Injuries are a part of the game regardless of what time of the year they happen. There is a chance we could get him back at some point during the season. We'll do everything we can to make that happen. But we'll adjust and move on.
On if Jon Beason could play weakside linebacker: There are a lot of options. At this point I'm not going to get into all of them, because we're just getting started. It's similar to what we went through and the adjustments we had to make a year ago. That's part of this game.
On if the expectations still remain high for the defense despite the loss of Davis: Yeah. I thought we finished the season pretty well with the people we had. We've got a different team this year, so each year you develop a new personality. But I like the way the guys are working and how they're going about their business.
On how much closer linebackers like James Anderson and Dan Connor are to being trusted regulars: First of all, my heart goes out to Thomas, because going through that, personally, it's hard. So I'm disappointed for him. I'm not sure you replace a guy quite of his abilities but I thought we had some guys step in last year and do a good job. James, you mentioned. We've got some different faces, also, this year. But I feel good about some of the guys we have and being able to step in and get the job done.
