Foxhole: Goodson makes good impression

!

Comments from Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox following the team's summer school practice.

On rookie running back Mike Goodson's quickness: He looked fast on college tape, and I'm glad he looks fast out here. He'll help us. He's got good speed; he's got breakaway ability; and that's why he drafted him.

On if Goodson has made a good impression so far: So far. He did good in minicamp and he's had a good first week in OTA's. He seems to be going about his business right and things are clicking.

On why wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad missed the first week of summer school: He had something planned with his family, and I excused him.

On when Muhammad will return: Monday.

On the difference between summer school and minicamp: Nothing really. Minicamp is probably our most condensed work of the season as far as two-a-days and not much rest time in between. Again, it's just a quick introduction to everything we do – the timing of things, how we do special teams, how we do the offense and defense. The OTA's are just once a day and you get a little bit more time to recover and watch tape and continue your weight program. But they are all important because they're opportunities for us to be out here and get guys better and get ready for camp.

On how cornerback Richard Marshall has looked: Good. We've thought highly of Richard for some time. I can't say that it hasn't been frustrating for him because it was a little bit of a logjam (at cornerback with Ken Lucas). Now he gets his opportunity, and I expect him to make the most of it and I'm sure he will.

On if Marshall prepared differently this offseason knowing that he is a starter: That's something you'd have to ask him. Every year the team changes, and we're going to expect a bigger role out of him and I'm sure that excites him.
