CHARLOTTE – Daeshon Hall's rookie season is over barely before it started.

The defensive end, selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. The Panthers filled his spot on the 53-man roster by signing safety Dezmen Southward off their practice squad.

Hall played nine snaps on defense in the season opener but was inactive the last three weeks. The Texas A&M product recorded 16 sacks and 36.5 tackles for loss in four seasons with the Aggies.

Southward, a third-round choice of the Falcons in 2014 out of Wisconsin, joined the Panthers' practice squad near the end of the 2016 season. He played in all 16 games as a rookie and recorded his lone career interception.
