CHARLOTTE — Panthers center Austin Corbett was not necessarily expecting good news, and tests Monday confirmed what he suspected.
Panthers head coach Dave Canales confirmed that the starting center suffered a ruptured biceps tendon during Sunday's loss to the Bears and will be lost for the season.
The 29-year-old Corbett helped to stabilize the line after moving to the middle, and made it one of the strengths of the team in the early part of the season.
After the game Sunday, with his left arm in a sling, he said he "felt the pop" while trying to push the pile on a downfield play to Jonathan Mingo. "So we'll get the official word tomorrow, but probably biceps," he said after the game.
It's the same injury that knocked Brady Christensen out for the season after last year's opener. Christensen replaced Corbett in the lineup Sunday and is expected to remain there.
Corbett became one of the mainstays of the 2022 offensive line until suffering a torn ACL in the finale that year. That slowed his comeback last season, and after returning and playing in four games, he suffered an MCL injury to the same knee. He has at least maintained a sense of humor about the situation.
The Panthers are in wait-and-see mode on the triceps injury suffered by veteran right tackle Taylor Moton, and Canales described him as "week-to-week," and said he didn't expect him to play this week.
He was on a streak of 6,787 consecutive snaps before he left Sunday's game.
The 2017 second-rounder had started 104 straight games and appeared in 120 straight. He was replaced in the lineup by Yosh Nijman, acquired as a free agent this offseason from Green Bay.
Between them, Christensen and Nijman have 46 career starts, so there's some sense of stability at those two positions.
