Reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton has been nominated for Best Male Athlete and Best NFL Player in the 2016 ESPY Awards.
Newton is the only NFL player nominated for Best Male Athlete. He is joined by Charlotte native and noted Panthers fan Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, in addition to NBA superstar LeBron James and Washington Nationals outfielder.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, Steelers receiver Antonio Brown and Falcons receiver Julio Jones are also up for Best NFL Player.
Under center for the NFL's top scoring offense, Newton threw for 3,837 yards and posted 636 rushing yards while leading the league with 45 total touchdowns.
Helping lead Carolina to a 17-2 record and Super Bowl appearance yielded multiple awards for Newton, including his third Pro Bowl nomination and AP All-Pro First Team. Newton was also named the Most Valuable Player by the AP, PFWA and Sports Illustrated.
The winner for both categories will be chosen by fans, and you can help Newton win the award by voting here. Voting will remain open until the ESPY's air on July 13 at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
