CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have placed safety Tre Boston on injured reserve with a knee injury and have signed safety Travell Dixon off the practice squad to take his spot.
A third-year player from the University of North Carolina used primarily as a starter for the first time this season, Boston recorded 50 tackles, two interceptions and two sacks. He added six passes defensed, tied for second-best on the team.
Boston had played in all 15 games, but head coach Ron Rivera said he was slowed by a knee injury for much of last Saturday's home finale against Atlanta.
Dixon, undrafted out of the University of Washington in 2015, signed with the Panthers in January and had spent the entire season on Carolina's practice squad.
Earlier Tuesday, the Panthers placed defensive end Ryan Delaire on injured reserve and promoted defensive end Larry Webster. The team filled Webster's spot on the practice squad with tight end Eric Wallace, a former Australian Rules Football player who spent part of training camp with Carolina. The Panthers have one vacant spot on the practice squad still to fill.
