CHARLOTTE – Former Vikings wide receiver Jarius Wright has signed a three-year deal with the Panthers, reuniting him with offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

"I think his style really fits the way we're going to go about doing things," said Turner, who spent two-and-a-half seasons coaching Wright in Minnesota. "Very quick starter – explosive. And he's a very natural player in the slot. He's been very successful in that area."

Minnesota released Wright, who they drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, after he totaled 18 receptions for 198 yards and two touchdowns this past season.

The 5-foot-10, 191-pounder has posted 153 receptions for 2,039 yards and 10 touchdowns in six years. He's been a productive player on third down, as 41 percent of his career catches and 45 percent of his career yardage have come on third down.

"That was a big part of what we did. We got him matched up in one-on-one situations, and I think he's going to win most of those," Turner said. "And he made a lot of big plays for us in the fourth quarter."

Wright's best season was 2014 with Turner, when he recorded 42 catches for 588 yards and two touchdowns. He was rewarded with a four-year extension following that productive campaign.

General manger Marty Hurney has expressed his desire to add more speed to the skill positions. Trading for Torrey Smith and signing Wright, who ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the scouting combine, are moves that certainly help.

"We've added speed," Turner said. "We're getting guys that have had some success and have been durable. They can really fly and they know how to play. That's going to help the entire group."
