CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have re-signed cornerback LaDarius Gunter, who was on the open market after Carolina opted not to tender him as a restricted free agent. He signed a one-year contract on Monday.
Gunter was claimed by the Panthers from Green Bay in Week 2 of the 2017 season. He saw action in four regular season games, primarily on special teams. He played as a reserve cornerback in Carolina's playoff game at New Orleans and recorded a tackle.
Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Miami (Fla.) in 2015, Gunter made Green Bay's opening day roster and played two full seasons for the Packers along with the first game of the 2017 season. He played 25 games for the Packers with 15 starts.
In 2016, he played in 16 games with 15 starts, making 58 tackles, two forced fumbles and a team-high 15 passes defensed. He also started all three postseason contests and registered 13 tackles with two pass breakups.
With Gunter back in the fold and Ross Cockrell signed last week, Carolina now has nine corners on the roster. James Bradberry, Captain Munnerlyn, Kevon Seymour, Corn Elder, Cole Luke, Zack Sanchez and Lorenzo Doss are the others.
